Welcome to Lancashire’s Only Specialist Roman Museum in our Centenary Year !

Welcome to the web site for the Ribchester Roman Museum. This site displays information concerning the Ribchester Roman Museum and its governing charitable organisation, the Ribchester Museum Trust.
The museum is dedicated to the Romano-British history of Bremetenacum Veteranorum, the Roman name for what is now Ribchester, a picturesque village in central Lancashire which lies on the river Ribble.

Museum Centenary Festival 12th and 13th July 2014

This year's Roman Festival will celebrate the Museum's centenary in 2014. Two re-enactment groups will be participating, Legio Secunda Augusta, a first century society, and Roman Cavalry group Romanorum. Both groups bring their specialist areas of interest vividly to life. There will be exciting military displays involving infantry and cavalry, and Roman artillery. A mosaicist, lawyer, masseur, surgeon, troop of gladiators, Roman women and children all demonstrate ways of life in Roman times. Children are able to dress up in armour, fight with Roman gladiators and participate in a range of other exciting activities. There will also be other special events and activities to commemorate of the Centenary.

Activity Days:  Monday 7th &  14th  April 2014

Two Children’s Activity Days coming up at the Museum. There will be many entertaining, interesting and educational activities for children between the ages of 4 and 12. These will include pot making, dressing up, brooch and mask making. Many of the activities are based on finds from Ribchester.  Join us for a fun day out!  The event runs between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

Virtual Reality Ribchester !

The museum will be showcasing an interactive 3D model of 3rd Century AD Ribchester as part of its centenary events.  The model, which has been under development for the last 18 months,  allows the visitor to navigate through the roman fort and its immediate surroundings and enter some of the reconstructed buildings. The model will become a permanent part of the museum's exhibits following the centenary and will be developed and enhanced on an ongoing basis.  Preview images to follow soon. !
